1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy sets out how Beam SAS. (“Beam”) use and protect your personal data that you provide to us, or that is otherwise obtained or generated by us, in connection with your use of our link sharing app (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy forms part of our Terms of Services (literally 5 lines of text), which describes the terms under which you use our Services. This Privacy Policy should therefore be read in conjunction with those terms.

2. Legal Ground for Processing Your Personal Data

We process your personal data on the ground that processing is necessary to further your legitimate interests:
  • Providing access to our Service to our users;
  • To detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud or security issues.

3. What Personal Data We Use

3.1. Basic Account Data

You provide basic account data (which may include user name, profile picture, email, phone number) to create a Beam account.
All this data on Beam is private by default and can only be made visible (ID, display name & profile picture) if you choose to create a shared room (private or public).
If you authenticate via phone number, it will be sent and stored by Google / Firebase.

3.2 Cookies

The only cookies we use are those to operate and provide our Services on the web. We do not use cookies for profiling or advertising. The cookies we use are small text files that allow us to provide and customize our Service, and in doing so provide you with an enhanced user experience.

4 Keeping Your Personal Data Safe

4.1 Private Groups (default)

All data in a private groups is only visible to invited parties.

4.2. Public Groups

All data in public rooms is visible to everyone. A public room might be suggested to users or featured on the app.

4.4. Retention

The personal data that you provide us will only be stored for as long as it is necessary for us to fulfill our Service obligations.

5 Processing Your Personal Data

5.1. Safety and Security

Beam supports a community which we have to police against abuse and Terms of Service violations. To improve the security of your account, as well as to prevent spam, abuse, and other violations of our Terms of Service, we may collect metadata such as your IP address, devices and Beam apps you’ve used and history of username changes. If  collected, this metadata can be kept for 12 months maximum.

5.2. Spam and Abuse

To prevent phishing, spam and other kinds of abuse and violations of Beam’s Terms of Service, our moderators may check public rooms that were reported to them. If a report on a public room you created is confirmed by our moderators, your account may be limited – temporarily or permanently. You can send an appeal using In case of more serious violations, your account may be banned. We may also use automated algorithms to analyze public rooms.

6 Who Your Personal Data May Be Shared With

Law Enforcement Authorities
If Beam receives a court order that confirms you’re a suspect in an ongoing investigation, we may disclose your IP address to the relevant authorities. If it happens, we will include it in a Transparency report.

7 Your Rights Regarding the Personal Data You Provide to Us

7.1. Your Rights

You have a right to:
  • Request a copy of all your personal data that we store and to transmit that copy to another data controller;
  • Delete or amend your personal data;
  • Restrict, or object to, the processing of your personal data;
  • Correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal data we hold on you; and
  • Lodge a complaint with national data protection authorities regarding our processing of your personal data.

7.2. Exercising Your Rights

  1. Deleting accounts
    If you would like to delete your account, you can delete your Beam account either from the iOS app > Account > Delete Account or from the web app. Deleting your account removes all identification attached to rooms, links and every other piece of data you ever stored in the Beam cloud. In short, your data stays but is not attached to any ID.

    We will review and may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes to this Privacy Policy will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy on this page
